Ayodhya GST Deputy Commissioner Prashant Kumar Singh faces a probe over allegations of using a fake disability certificate to secure his government job, following a complaint by his brother after his recent resignation.

Resignation Sparks Family Feud and Scrutiny

Prashant Kumar Singh, the Deputy Commissioner of GST in Ayodhya, recently tendered his resignation on January 27, 2026, citing protest against remarks made by Shankaracharya Swami Avimukteshwaranand Saraswati targeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath.

This dramatic exit from his position has thrust him into the spotlight, but not just for his political stance. Almost immediately after, his elder brother, Dr. Vishwajeet Singh, came forward with serious accusations that have reignited a long-simmering investigation. Dr. Vishwajeet claims that Prashant secured his government job through fraudulent means, specifically by using a fake disability certificate issued back in 2009. The certificate allegedly claimed around 40 percent disability, primarily related to a rare eye condition uncommon in people under 50 years old.

Probe Initiated in 2021 Gains New Momentum

The controversy traces back to August 2021 when Dr. Vishwajeet Singh first lodged a formal complaint with the Chief Medical Officer (CMO) in Mau, demanding a re-examination of the certificate. Mau CMO Dr. Sanjay Gupta confirmed that the matter has been under inquiry since then, involving multiple authorities including the Health Department, the Office of the Divyangjan Ayog, and higher administrative bodies.

Following the complaint, Prashant Kumar Singh was summoned twice by the divisional disability medical board to verify his disability status, but he did not appear on either occasion. This non-compliance has fueled suspicions. On December 19, the Health Department sent a letter to the Director General of Health Services seeking further directions, with a copy forwarded to the complainant. Dr. Gupta emphasized that the process remains ongoing and transparent, with no external pressures influencing it.

He noted that only an expert medical board can provide a definitive assessment on the eye-related disability claim. The case is now pending decisions from the Divyangjan Commissioner and other institutions, and further steps will follow once instructions arrive from the top.

Brother Alleges Evasion Through Resignation

Dr. Vishwajeet Singh has not held back in his public statements, suggesting that his brother's sudden resignation is a calculated move to dodge the intensifying scrutiny. he told reporters. Dr. Vishwajeet has urged authorities to escalate the matter to a judicial probe, warning of possible financial recovery if the allegations hold true.

Resigning from the post of Deputy Commissioner (GST) is just a drama to avoid investigation and potential recovery proceedings. He was called twice to appear before the medical board but did not present himself for examination, and now this exit seems timed to evade accountability for misusing the disability quota,

The family rift adds a personal layer to what was already a bureaucratic and administrative tangle. Sources indicate the 2021 complaint had lingered for nearly four years before resurfacing prominently post-resignation. There's even mention in some communications of Prashant’s sister, Jaya Singh, though details remain unclear. As the investigation progresses across levels, questions linger about the certificate's authenticity and its role in Prashant’s recruitment via the Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission under the disability quota.

The saga underscores broader concerns over the verification of disability certificates in government hiring, highlighting potential loopholes that demand stricter oversight. Official probes continue methodically, balancing administrative protocols with the weight of familial accusations and public interest. In summary, Prashant Kumar Singh's resignation has collided with a protracted inquiry into alleged certificate fraud, initiated by his brother, with authorities poised for next steps pending higher directives.
