Bridging the Gap in Digital Learning for School Students

IIT Madras, one of India's premier engineering institutions, has taken a significant step forward in making digital education more reachable for young learners.

The newly launched IITM School Connect program targets students in Classes XI and XII, offering them a chance to dive into cutting-edge subjects through online certificate courses.

These courses focus on Data Science and Artificial Intelligence, as well as Electronic Systems, designed specifically by IIT Madras professors to suit the school curriculum level.

Delivered entirely online, they span eight weeks and emphasize hands-on experience, helping students explore potential career paths early on.

This move comes at a time when digital skills are increasingly vital, yet access remains uneven across the country, especially in remote areas.

Program Details and Growing Momentum

The courses aim to equip students with practical insights, enabling them to make smarter choices about higher education and future jobs.

Registrations for the latest batch kicked off in mid-September, with classes set to begin later in the year, drawing keen interest nationwide.

Already, more than 500 schools have partnered with IIT Madras, and over 11,000 students enrolled in the inaugural batch, showcasing the program's rapid appeal.

Open only to students from these partnered schools, the initiative fosters a collaborative network between academia and secondary education.

Behind this effort is the Centre for Outreach and Digital Education, or CODE, established in 2022 to streamline IIT Madras's various digital learning ventures.

CODE builds on decades of outreach, including past programs like those from the Centre for Continuing Education, now expanded to reach wider audiences through web-based formats.

Broader Vision for Inclusive Education

This launch aligns with IIT Madras's larger commitment to democratizing education through technology.
