Maruti Suzuki partners with Andhra Pradesh government to establish four automated driving test tracks, enhancing road safety through technology-driven licensing.

Maruti Suzuki Inks Deal for Automated Test Tracks in Andhra Pradesh

Maruti Suzuki India Limited has entered into a significant partnership with the Transport Department of Andhra Pradesh by signing a Memorandum of Agreement.

This collaboration aims to set up four Automated Driving Test Tracks at key Regional Transport Office locations in Eluru, Ongole, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli.

Under this CSR initiative, the company will handle the automation and maintenance of these facilities for three years starting from their commissioning date.

The move is part of Maruti Suzuki's ongoing commitment to improving road safety across the country, bringing advanced testing infrastructure to these regions.

Cutting-Edge Technology for Fair and Efficient Testing

These automated tracks represent a leap forward in driving license evaluation, featuring high-definition cameras, RFID sensors, real-time analytics, and a fully integrated IT system.

The setup ensures standardized, objective assessments compliant with Central Motor Vehicle Rules, operating with zero human intervention.

Test results will be generated automatically, promoting transparency and reducing chances of bias or error in the traditional process.

All four locations will cater to applicants for Light Motor Vehicles and two-wheelers, while the Ongole track will also accommodate Heavy Motor Vehicle tests.

This technology promises quicker processing times and higher credibility, making it easier for genuine skilled drivers to obtain licenses while weeding out the unqualified.

Broader Impact on Road Safety and Expansion Plans

Shri Manish Kumar Sinha, IPS, Transport Commissioner of Andhra Pradesh, praised the partnership, noting Maruti Suzuki's role in integrating with the SARATHI system, training staff, and providing ongoing maintenance.

“During my meeting with Hon’ble Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Shri Chandrababu Naidu, I was impressed by his love for technology. Aligned with his vision for technology-led solutions, we are honoured to bring 4 Automated Driving Test Tracks (ADTTs) to the state of Andhra Pradesh. ADTTs use advanced technology that ensure a comprehensive, efficient, and transparent process with zero human intervention. This guarantees that only skilled drivers are awarded a driving license, thereby improving overall road safety.” – Hisashi Takeuchi, MD & CEO, Maruti Suzuki India Limited

The state government will manage infrastructure aspects like civil works, security, and power supply.

With this addition, Maruti Suzuki's network of automated test tracks will grow to 81 across India, following prior implementations in seven states and upcoming ones in Rajasthan and Tamil Nadu.

The initiative fits into the company's wider road safety efforts, including Institutes of Driving and Traffic Research and Road Safety Knowledge Centres.

By ensuring licenses go only to competent drivers, these tracks could significantly lower accident rates linked to unskilled driving, a persistent challenge on Indian roads.

Experts believe such innovations could set a national benchmark, encouraging other states to adopt similar measures for safer mobility.

This partnership between Maruti Suzuki and Andhra Pradesh underscores a proactive step toward modernizing driving tests, leveraging technology for objectivity and safety. The four new tracks in Eluru, Ongole, Vizianagaram, and Anakapalli will enhance efficiency, expand to 81 nationwide facilities, and align with broader road safety goals, ultimately aiming to ensure only skilled drivers hit the roads.
