A new report from activist short-seller Morpheus Research accuses MakeMyTrip of persisting with anti-competitive practices, defying a 2022 CCI penalty order, sparking concerns over regulatory compliance and market dominance.

MakeMyTrip Faces Fresh Allegations of Defying Regulator

Morpheus Research, a prominent activist short-seller, has dropped a bombshell report claiming that MakeMyTrip, India's leading online travel platform, is blatantly ignoring a key order from the Competition Commission of India. Back in October 2022, the CCI slapped the company with a hefty fine of around $26 million for engaging in anti-competitive and abusive practices, including enforcing price parity agreements with hotel partners. These arrangements forced hotels to match prices across platforms, stifling competition. The regulator explicitly directed MakeMyTrip to cease such behavior. Yet, according to the report released on March 30, the company continues these tactics through sneaky backdoor methods.
